Tips for getting started with FirstGiving
Our goal is to help people raise as much as they can for the causes they care about, by providing an excellent service to as many people as possible.
To help you support your fundraisers, we recommend following these 3 tips:
1. Lead by example. Make your own fundraising page – it doesn’t take long. Just visit your nonprofit page, click Get Started and follow the steps to creating your page.

2. Get everybody on board. Contact all your supporters, volunteers and board members and ask them to visit your nonprofit page, make fundraising pages, and share them with everyone they know.

3. Spread the word. Add your nonprofit page web address to you website, blogs, newsletter, brochures, any email blasts, etc. See below in the right column of the page, for an example of how Louie’s Last Regatta is promoting fundraising on their website.

Here are some additional tips to help launch your fundraising program:
1. Customize your nonprofit page and emails: Learn how to upload you banner, images, links and more, as well as edit your thank-you and matching-gift emails.
2. Add your events to you nonprofit page at least 90 days in advance. Learn how to add your events
3. Encourage your supporters to set up fundraising pages. Email everyone you can and make personal calls to key supporters to get the ball rolling.
4. Add your nonprofit page web address to your website, newsletter, and everything else your nonprofit sends out.
5. Encourage your supporters to create a fundraising page and send reminders . People want to help and are looking for ways to give back, but they’re busy and need encouragement to do their best. Keep in touch with them and encouraging them on with their fundraising efforts.
6. Make the most of social media. Ask your supporters to promote your fundraising in their online communities, such as on blogs, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and more.
7. Read our blog for success stories, tips and tricks, promotions and news.
