Tips for nonprofits: make the most of your FirstGiving nonprofit page

Once you have a FirstGiving nonprofit page set up for your fundraising campaign or event, what should you put on it?

Here’s a great example of a nonprofit page with all the essentials from our friends at Outright Vermont:

In addition to putting together a highly creative fundraising event (a fire truck pull competition), the folks at Outright Vermont have made the most of their FirstGiving nonprofit page.  When event participants go to the page to register for the event, they see:

  • The event date: “Welcome to the 6th Annual Fire Truck Pull, Sat., Sept 5th on Church Street!”
  • A warm welcome: “Thanks for joining in this insane feat of physical strength for VT youth.  We promise you’ll have a blast ;)
  • An explanation that they have partnered with FirstGiving to make raising money online easy: “To make the raising money part easy, we’ve partnered with FirstGiving”
  • Easy instructions on what to do to register and create a fundraising page: “Getting started is cake!  It literally takes 5 minutes to create your personal fundraising page”
  • Encouragement to personalize the fundraising page as much as possible: “Let your family and friends know you’re in this to WIN.”
  • A tidbit about what to expect after creating a fundraising page and asking for donations: “Once people start giving, an automatic thank-you email is sent to your donors.  You’ll soon become addicted to checking your online fundraising page to see who has given, what they’ve said, and how much closer you are to your goal!”
  • Contact information at Outright Vermont to answer participants’ questions: “Remember, you can call us any time; just ask for Katherine, Ella or Whitney!”

You’ll also want to make sure you’ve uploaded a banner with your organization’s logo, some photos, and additional resources for your fundraisers, if you haven’t already.
